Chief Technology Officer
First Time Appointment of Chief Technology Officer position in a Higher Education Institution
In parallel with the developments in technology, companies today appoint a Chief Technology Officer to define the technological developments in their fields of work and to manage the technological development of the institution. CTO is the authorized person and manager in the field of managing scientific or technological studies in a company or project. In this framework, it is an executive position in the management of the research and development activities of the university, the management of the technological exigencies of the university, the development of policies and methods related to technology, and the development of students and instructors with the help of technology, as it will be implemented for the first time in a university.
In order to make the institutional management of our university more effective, it is of vital importance to identify and implement the university’s focal points for technological research issues, to manage the technology development infrastructure, to ensure coordination with other universities, the private sector and the state, to develop income-enhancing strategies, to analyze cost savings and returns on investment, thereby acting as a point of contact between university students and academics and the industry. As a starting point, it is necessary to take responsibility for customer relations and to provide graduates with efficiency and competence to meet the needs of business life and to launch projects. In line with these purposes, for the first time in Turkey, the Chief Technology Officer-CTO position in the organizational structure of a university has been implemented at OSTİM Technical University.
In order to perform this duty, Dr. Akif HACINECİPOĞLU from Ostim Technical University, Faculty of Engineering, Department of Mechanical Engineering has been appointed as CTO.
